Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has praised the side’s new signing Xola Mlambo following the player’s move from Chippa United.

Hunt is believed to have brought in the 25-year-old midfielder to cover for the loss of Sibusiso Vilakazi, who has joined Mamelodi Sundowns, and is eager to witness the new signing’s impact.

‘He [Mlambo] is a good, good player and we went all the way to bring him here because we believe he is going to give us a lot,’ Hunt told Goal.

Mlambo made 16 appearances in a central role for the Chilli Boys last term.

‘He obviously brings with him a different dimension, with lots of quality although different from what we lost in Vila [Sibusiso Vilakazi]. But he will add stability to our midfield,’ Hunt added.

Despite the loss of star player Vilakazi, Wits have made a host of new additions to their side, with Mlambo being joined by the likes of Cuthbert Malajila, Makgokolodi Ngele, Pentjie Zulu, Thabang Monare, Gabadino Mango, and Eleazer Rodgers.

Wits come up against Kaizer Chiefs in their opening game of the new Premiership season. The match will be played at the Bidvest Stadium on August 23.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
