Gaxa seeks legal aid

Kaizer Chiefs fullback Siboniso Gaxa is seeking legal advice following his shock release from the Glamour Boys.

The veteran right-back’s name was among those the Amakhosi had listed as not having their contracts up for renewal. Morgan Gould, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Reyaad Pieterse, meanwhile, were among the other high profile releases.

What makes Gaxa’s snub so controversial, however, is that the player believed he was still contracted to the club until 2018.

The Amakhosi themselves tweeted as recently as October 21: ‘Pa Gaxa has signed a 2 year contract extension with the Club that will run from 01 July 2016 – 30 June 2018.’

Now, the player’s business manager Glyn Binkin has confirmed Gaxa is considering his options.

‘We are disappointed at how this matter has been handled,’ Binkin told KickOff. ‘Gaxa has an existing contract with the club. Now we are seeking a legal opinion on the matter and the truth will come out.’

Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa, meanwhile, has called the dispute ‘a matter of management to clarify’.

Gaxa made 26 appearances for Chiefs this season, scoring and assisting one apiece.
