Former Blues boss Avram Grant is the latest name to be linked with the vacancy at Kaizer Chiefs after Steve Komphela’s departure.

The Amakhosi continue their search for a new coach and according to reports by the Daily Sun, the former Ghana and Chelsea coach could be on his way to Naturena.

The Glamour Boys are looking for a new coach ahead of the new Absa Premiership season and it is reported that the 62-year-old former Black Stars manager could be unveiled at the end of the current season.

If appointed, Grant would have the unenviable task of having to cull the herd at Chiefs. There are a number of players who are reported to be deemed surplus to requirements which would mean Grant would have to manage the exodus and make recommendations on signing new players as well.

The Israeli boasts an impressive CV having managed the likes of Chelsea, Portsmouth, West Ham United and is currently in India, coaching North East United FC, in the Indian Super League.

‘Grant has worked in Africa before, where he wrote a successful story with Ghana, where he spent three fruitful years. He would come in handy for frustrated Chiefs,’ said a source close to Daily Sun.

Chiefs’ football manager Bobby Motaung has declined to name any coaches who may be up for the job but has insisted that the club has a plan for fishing [out] the right man.

‘We’re not in a hurry. This is a process,’ Motaung was quoted as saying.

‘We are yet to review and assess those applications. The season has not finished yet, hence we are taking it easy,’ he explained.

‘We don’t have deadline or set any timelines on when we should appoint a coach. But that will be before the new season starts,’ he said.
