A stoppage-time goal by Lebogang Manyama was enough for Cape Town City to secure a 3-2 victory over Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Friday evening.

Erick Tinkler’s side got off to a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Roland Putsche struck a volley into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Clever Boys came close to levelling matters in the 22nd minute, but striker Eleazar Rodgers’ headed effort went just over the crossbar.

However, Wits soon equalised matters in the 31 minute when defender Bongani Khumalo beat his marker before glancing his header past City goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters.

After 45 minutes of play, the scoreline remained locked at 1-1 heading into half-time.

City restored parity and took the lead for the second time n the 57th minute when an error by Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet allowed Lebogang Manyama to tap the ball into an empty goal to make it 2-1.

However, Wits were awarded a penalty a minute later when Walters brought down Mogakolodi Ngele. Rodgers stepped up to take the penalty and landed the spot kick to make it 2-2.

Wits looked more threatening as the second half went on but could not find a way through the City defence.

In the end it was City’s victory when a stoppage-time header by Manyama secured his side the win and all three points to go top of the Premier League table.
