Platinum Stars have issued a warning to their players upon discovering a fraudster is making use of the club’s name.

In a statement released by the club, players were altered that the club’s name, as well as that of general manager Senzo Mazingiza, are being used falsely.

‘Platinum Stars Football Club has distanced itself from a scam doing rounds in the name of the club,’ the statement began.

‘Stars General Manager Senzo Mazingiza says it has come to his attention that there are people using his name and that of Platinum Stars allegedly to lure players to the Rustenburg based club. The unsuspecting targets are promised contracts at the club. Mazingiza has poured scorn on such as scam. Mazingiza says neither he nor any employee of the club has contacted any player promising them a contract.’

Speaking to KickOff, Mazingiza added: ‘All these things are a scam. Someone is using my name and that of the club for their own devious reasons. It’s very disturbing. It’s been going on for a week now.

‘They promise people contracts saying they must come and we speak contracts. I don’t know what they are trying to benefit from this. When I followed up I realised that they may be trying to steal players from agents and others are trying to steal money from these players. It’s very unfortunate. We distance ourselves from such. We are on a break so we are not calling people, ‘ Mazingiza concluded.
