Cape Town City hold the bragging rights in the Mother City after they beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 on Friday.

Bhongolwethu Jayiya stole the headlines in the first ever Cape Town derby as his 20th minute strike decided the PSL encounter at the Cape Town Stadium.

Aubrey Ngoma had the game’s first chance but he failed to test the goalkeeper after some fine play by Lebogang Manyama. In an end to end affair, Shu-Aib Walters was forced to palm away a firm strike by Bantu Mzwakali.

Jayiya’s opportunity arose next as he tapped home a cross to hand his side the lead with 25 minutes to play in the first half.

On another night, Jayiya might’ve had a hat-trick after he headed over the bar after missing a good chance earlier as he weaved his way through the Ajax defence.

Nathan Paulse squandered two chances of his own as Roger de Sa side was forced to taste defeat in the first derby in the Mother City.
