Chippa United stunned Kaizer Chiefs in their Absa Premiership clash after beating them 3-1 at the at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The Chilli Boys were dealt a major blow in the first 10 minutes of the match when midfielder Mbulelo Wambi was stretchered off the field after picking up a hamstring injury.

Five minutes later, Amakhosi broke the deadlock when a poor clearance by Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi fell to Siphiwe Tshabalala, who calmly slotted into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Chilli Boys came close to levelling the match in the 22nd minute but captain James Okwuosa’s header effort was guided inches wide of the crossbar.

Dan Malesela’s side more threatening in the opening exchanges of the second half following the introduction of substitutes Buyani Sali for David Zulu.

However, Chippa levelled matters in the 71st minute when Lerato Manzini did well to rise the highest to head home a cross from Diamond Thapola.

A minute later and the Chilli Boys went ahead when Bereng headed the ball past Amakhosi goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo at the far post to make it 2-1.

Chippa then grabbed their third goal and all but sealed the victory in the 85th minute when Sali set up Manzini, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner to complete his brace, as his side returned to winning way in the Absa Premiership.
