Chippa United have opted against retaining the services of defender Ruben Cloete after his contract with the Chilli Boys expired at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old veteran joined the Chilli Boys in the beginning of last season made nine appearances in all competitions for the clubs for the 2015-16 season.

Cloete has been linked with a possible job in the club’s technical team after club coach Dan Malesela made indications that he foresees a role for him in coaching, according to KickOff.com.

Chippa CEO Peter Koutroulis has confirmed that the defender is officailly not a Chippa player anymore following the expieration of his deal with the club.

‘His contract expired and it was not renewed and he is not at the club anymore be it as a player or member of the technical team. However, I do believe that if he decides to retire he can become a coach,’ Koutroulis said.

The defender scored four goals and assisted 11 times has featured a total of 193 times playing for the like of Santos, Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates.

Chippa have already added to their defence by signing Simphiwe Mtsweni and Marc van Heerden.
