The dates for the new season of the Absa Premiership have confirmed set as Kaizer Chiefs face Bidvest Wits on the opening day of fixtures.

The new season officially gets underway on the evening of Tuesday, August 23, with three games taking place. The first match will be contested by the 2014-15 winners, Kaizer Chiefs, and last season’s runners-up Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium. Newly-promoted Baroka will play their opening debut match at the highest level when they welcome Ajax Cape Town to town.

Cape Town City will make their PSL bow when they host Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium.

All matches on August 23 will kick-off at 19:30.

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates will play their first game on Wednesday against Golden Arrows.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns face a long wait for their opening fixture with the Brazilians currently occupied with the Caf Champions League duty. Their first match is set for Wednesday, September 14 with a trip to the Harry Gwala Stadium to face Maritzburg United.

The first Soweto derby of the season is set to take place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, October 29. The reverse fixture will be hosted by the Amakhosi and is set to be played on Saturday, March 4.

The final round of fixtures is set for May 27.

August 24 at 19:30:

Platinum Stars vs SuperSport United (Royal Bafokeng Stadium)

Bloemfontein Celtic vs Maritzburg United (Dr Molemela Stadium)
