SoccerClub looks back at Kaizer Chiefs’ form in the Absa Premiership since the resumption of the PSL, as Amakhosi head into their final four matches of the 2019-20 season.

The Glamour Boys will have the opportunity to move six points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns when the teams square off in a mouthwatering clash at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday.

1) Chiefs miss opportunity to extend gap over Mamelodi Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits could not be separated as the sides played out to a 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, 12 August.

Samir Nurkovic opened the scoring for Amakhosi in the 36th minute before Cole Alexander netted a late equaliser in stoppage time.

With the draw Chiefs remained at the top of the league standings – four points above second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, while Wits moved up to fifth spot on the table.

2) Amakhosi secure thrilling comeback win over Polokwane City

Chiefs came back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory over Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 15 August.

Three goals in the space of six minutes from Willard Katsande, Anthony Akumu and Samir Nurkovic handed Amakhosi all three points as Lesiba Nku and Jabulani Maluleke’s goals proved to be a consolation.

Resulting from the hard-earned win, Chiefs now have 52 points at the summit from 24 matches, leaving Rise and Shine in 15th place with 23 points from 25 games.

3) Bloem Celtic derail title charge

The Soweto giants squandered a chance to move nine points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership standings as they fell to a 3-1 defeat by Bloemfontein Celtic at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday, 19 August.

A brace from Motebang Sera and a goal from Victor Letsoalo fired Phunya Sele Sele to a deserved win after Erick Mathoho had opened the scoring for Chiefs.

Chiefs still hold a six-point lead at the summit of the standings – having now played a game more than second-placed Sundowns – while the win moved Celtic up to 10th place.

4) Kambole finally opens his goal account for Chiefs

Chiefs’ Absa Premiership title hopes suffered another blow when they were forced to share the spoils with Stellenbosch FC after playing out to a 1-1 draw at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday, 23 August.

The Cape side opened the scoring through Leletu Skelem but Amakhosi fought back through Lazarous Kambole to secure a point and open up a six-point gap to nearest chasers Sundowns.
