Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Bennett Chenene is backing coach Muhsin Ertugral to lead the Buccaneers to the Absa Premiership title this season.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a three-year spell with the Soweto giants from 2007 to 2010 where he scored 13 goals from 71 appearances in all competitions.

Chenene believes that if Ertugral can replicate his Mpumalanga Black Aces success at the Mayfair, then he will have a ‘wonderful’ season.

‘Mushin is a good coach and his got material,’ Chenene told KickOff.com.

‘I think if the new coach can apply the same strategy of Mpumalanga Black Aces, Pirates will be wonderful this season.’

The former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder believes Ertugral stands a chance of winning the league if he deploys the same philosophies he did at Aces.

‘Remember how Aces played… Marvelous football and they achieved top eight,’ he added.

‘So I think if he can apply the same strategy at Pirates, I think Pirates have a chance to win the league.’

Orlando Pirates will now take on Golden Arrows in their opening Absa Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium On Wednesday

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
