The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the increase of the prize money for the CAF Champions League, Confederations Cup, Chan, and Afcon.

The Caf have increased the prize money for the Caf Champions League, as well as the Caf Confederation Cup, African Nations Championship and African Cup of Nations, due to their new sponsorship deal with Total.

As of next year,  the amount of teams participating in the group stages of the CL and CC will go from eight to 16, with four groups of four.

The prestigious Afcon tournament has seen a 64% increase in prize money, with the winners picking up $4-million with the runners-up claiming $2-million.

The winner of the Champions League previously walked away with $1.5-million in prize money but an increase of $1-million will now see them land $2.5-million (R33-million).

The Caf Confederations Cup has seen an increase of almost 90% with the winners of the tournament bagging a total of $1.25-million instead of $660 000 they previously received.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Caf Total Chan tournament has become more attractive and the winner now takes home $1.25-million rather than the previous amount of $750 000.
