SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie says he aims to break the 20-goal barrier during the 2016-17 season.

The New Zealand striker finished last season as the top scorer in all competitions with 18 goals while assisting a further five from 37 appearances.

However, the 28-year-old admits his disappointment of only scoring 11 Absa Premiership goals last season.

‘I’ve stated already that I was disappointed with the 11 league goals that I got last season. I was up and down at the start of the campaign,’ Brockie.

The last player to reach 20 goals in the Absa Premiership was veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe in the 2011-12 season and Brockie says his goal for this season is to break that barrier and lead his team to success, reports KickOff.com.

‘So the 20-goal barrier hasn’t been broken for a while and that’s a personal goal for me and if I can get that, it will lead to the success for the club as well. So I will try to get it,’ he added.

Meanwhile, the former Wellington Phoenix says he has enjoyed his time at Matsatsantsa so far and hopes that he can keep working under coach Stuart Baxter and develop as a player.

‘I’ve enjoyed my 18 months here and I’m happy to extend,’ the striker said.

‘This club is going in the right direction. I want to keep working under Stuart Baxter, he developed me a lot in the last four or five months last season. So if I can continue to work under him win more trophies and develop as a player, I think this is the right club for me.’

Over the Course of his career, Brockie has netted 68 goals and assisted a further 23 from 208 appearances in all competitions.

He has also played for the likes of Australian side’s NZ Knights, Sydney, Richmond SC Eagles, Hawke’s Bay, Team Wellington, North Qld Fury, Newcastle United Jets, Wellington Phoenix , MSL side Toronto and SuperSport United.

SuperSport United will now travel to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium for their opening Absa Premiership fixture when they play Platinum Stars on Wednesday.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
