Baroka have declared that their opening match of what will be their first ever Premiership season will not take place at the venue first advertised.

Baroka were hopeful of playing their home game at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium but have now announced that their opening fixture against Ajax Cape Town will be played at the old Mokaba Stadium instead.

The new stadium, located right across the road from the old stadium, was built as Polokwane’s stadium for the Fifa World Cup and boasts are far larger capacity than its namesake, an older and smaller venue designed for athletics.

Baroka succeeded in winning promotion to the Premiership following a successful season in the National First Division last term. Aside from winning the first division title, the side also put together a stunning Nedbank Cup run that saw them garner a reputation as giant slayers before eventually falling at the semi-final stage.

The match between Baroka and Ajax is set to take place on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
