Stellenbosch have confirmed that experienced tactician Steve Barker has joined to strengthen their coaching department in search of promotion to the Absa Premiership.

The 48-year-old will join current coach Sammy Troughton in a joint-coach position to continue improving the team as they bid to qualify.

Stellenbosch COO Edries Burton believes Barker’s experience could prove invaluable.

‘We are delighted with the appointment of Steve Barker and believe his appointment will be an additional catalyst for our ambition to gain promotion to the Premier League,’ Burton said.

‘Steve comes with lots of football knowledge and experience and we are confident that he will add tremendous value to our technical team. We wish Steve all the best.’

As a coach, Barker successfully guided AmaTuks to the Absa Premiership after winning promotion in 2012 before departing to coach AmaZulu.
