Montpellier winger Keagan Dolly feels there were enough games remaining in the season for Bongani Zungu’s Amiens to avoid relegation.

Paris Saint-Germain were awarded the title, with Zungu’s Amiens and Toulouse relegated to the French second tier after the French government cancelled the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Amiens were 19th in the Ligue 1 standings, four points behind Nimes and 10 points ahead of Toulouse, with 10 games left to play.

However, Dolly believes it was a bit unfair for the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to abandon the campaign as Amiens still had a fighting chance to secure their status in the Ligue 1 for the following season.

‘Amiens being relegated was a bit touchy for Bongani because they felt like there were a few games that they played they maybe could have won‚’ Dolly told SowetanLive.

‘But it’s unfortunate for them that the league took the decision that they took.

‘I think it’s important now for Bongani to try and focus on his next step. And when he’s ready to talk about where he’s going to, then I’ll be able to know where he’s coming from.’
