Orlando Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Dikwena in the Absa Premiership as Polokwane City beat Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday.

Dikwena started the match of brightly in the first half when Malawian midfielder Robert Ng’ambi’s strike flashed just wide of the Pirates post in the 13th minute.

However, five minutes later Stars could’ve broken the deadlock but Ndumiso Mabena’s tame effort was comfortably saved by Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo.

At the other end, Pirates had an opportunity of their on to open the score when captain Oupa Manyisaefforted flew narrowly wide of the target midway through the first half.

Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral introduced striker Thabiso Kutumela to replace midfielder Bernard Morrison in the 55th minute and the substitution paid off as last season’s NFD top goal scorer, netted with a low free-kick in the 76th minute to hand the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.

However, Dikwena striker Thobani Kunene levelled matters two minutes after replacing Vuyo Mere by heading home a corner during the first minute of stoppage time.at the death for Cavin Johnson’s outfit.

Cavin Johnson’s side held on to secured a 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates as both side’s shared a point each.

Meanwhile, A second-half goal from Sipho Jembula handed Polokwane City a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg to secure their second straight win in the Absa Premiership.

Rise and Shine opted to introduce Jembula in the 66th minute and the substitute made an immediate impact with his first touch a 22-yard stunner which found the back of the net.

While Highlands Park were held to 1-1 stalemate by Cape Town City at the Makhulong Stadium in Johannesburg.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 68th minute when City captain Lebogang Manyama beat Highlands goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini to make it 1-0 to City.

However, Eric Tinkler’s side’s lead only lasted for four minutes as last season’s Absa Premiership Golden Boot winner Mbesuma equalised for the Lions of the North as the match finished 1-1 after the final whistle.
