SoccerClub looks back at Bidvest Wits’ journey in this season’s Nedbank Cup competition leading up to their mouthwatering semi-final clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Clever Boys are set to resume their 2019-20 season when they travel to the Orlando Stadium for a potentially entertaining Nedbank Cup semi-final encounter with the Brazilians on 8 August.

Gavin Hunt’s men started their cup campaign by beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 on penalties (3-3 after extra time) in a thrilling last-32 clash at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on 9 February.

The Students went on to defeat Chippa United 2-0 at the Bidvest Stadium in Braamfontein on 24 February to book their place in the next round – through goals from Thulani Hlatshwayo and Phathutshedzo Nange.

Wits then breezed past GladAfrica Championship side Real Kings after cruising to a comfortable 4-0 victory at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on 13 March, when Bienvenu Eva Nga, Lorenzo Gordinho and Terrence Dzvukamanja found the back of the net for the Clever Boys, while Lesego Manganyi put the ball past his own goalkeeper for an own goal to send Hunt’s men into the semi-finals.
