Stuart Broad has picked up a heel injury which could rule him out of the Test series against South Africa starting 6 July.

The England seamer limped off in Nottinghamshire’s win over Leicestershire, after bowling one over, complaining about pain in his left heel.

This raises concerns for England, who will be without Chris Woakes due to a side strain. Their star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, was risked in the Champions Trophy and played with a sore knee. Their leading wicket-taker, James Anderson, has also just recently recovered from a thigh injury.

Broad’s injury was confirmed by Nottinghamshire’s coach, Peter Moores.

‘Stuart had a bit of pain in his heel,’ Moores told the media after his team’s 28o-run win.

‘He’s had it for a while. If the situation had been different he could have pushed on through it, but there was no need to, so he came off and we’ll monitor it and look after him.’

Broad is third on the all-time wicket-taking list for his country, has played 102 Tests and has taken 368 wickets @ 28.54 at an Economy Rate of 3.00.
