We take a look at the top five T20 series moments, which the Proteas won 2-0 with victory margins of 20 and 83 runs.
1. David Miller sets highest T20I score
This was by far the best moment of the series. Miller smashed his first ever T20 ton off 35 deliveries, crushing Richard Levi’s record by 10 balls. Miller was on 42 off 21 balls after the fall of Hashim Amla in the 17th over and he hit 58 runs off 15 balls to take the Proteas from 157-4 to 224-4. This was the fourth time a South African recorded a T20I century. Miller’s 101* is the fourth highest score for SA, behind Morne van Wyk (114* v WI), Richard Levi ( 117* v NZ) and Faf du Plessis (119 v WI). His performance won him Man of the Match and Man of the Series.
2. Amla’s perfect series
The 34-year-old had the perfect response to his miss in the first T20I, which saw him bundled over by Shakib Al Hasan for three. He struck 11 fours and one six for his 51-ball 85, which set the platform for ‘Miller time’. This was Amla’s eighth T20I half-century and rounded off the perfect series. He scored two centuries in the Test series, a ton and a half-ton in the ODI series and a half-century in the T20 series, showing off his versatility and class.
3. De Villiers and De Kock tag-team destruction
In the first T20I, Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers set the platform for the hosts with a partnership of 79 for the second wicket. De Villiers punished the Bangladesh seamers, smacking eight fours. Once the spinners were introduced, the Tigers managed to throttle the hosts. De Villiers fell victim to Mehedi Hasan for 49 off 27 balls with the Proteas three runs short of the 100-run mark. De Kock fell later on 59 off 44 balls (five fours and a six), trapped lbw by Rubel Hossain.
4. Paterson’s death-bowling
Although figures of 2-29 are not something to shout about, it was the manner in which the 28-year-old took his opportunities. He picked up a brace in the 17th over, with Bangladesh needing 49 off 24 balls at the start of the over. This seemed to rattle the Tigers, as the visitors fell 20 runs short of the target. His first wicket was the perfect example of ‘you miss I hit’, as Mehedi’s attempt to paddle the ball fine behind square failed and his leg-stump was uprooted. His next delivery was the perfect yorker on middle stump, trapping Taskin Ahmed lbw.
5. Mosehle shines behind the stumps
Brought in at the top of the order in place of the rested De Kock, Mangalisa Mosehle failed to impress with the bat. He was effective with the gloves, however, ending with the most dismissals – two catches and one stumping. His stumping of Imrul Kayes on the last ball of the second over stunned the Tigers after a quick start of 21 runs from 11 balls – he collected a wayward pass to his left and then splattered the stumps to his right. Neither De Kock or Mushfiqur Rahim had a dismissal in the series.
