Beuran Hendricks finished with 4-14 as the Proteas restricted Pakistan to 168-9 in the third T20I at SuperSport Park, KHALID MOHIDIN reports.

With the series already won by the Proteas, Pakistan were playing for pride as they aimed to avoid a 3-0 whitewash.

The average score at SuperSport Park was 157 and Pakistan were struggling to reach that total as the Proteas bowlers took regular wickets.

Pakistan throughout their innings got starts but never capitalised on their momentum as the Proteas removed their batsmen at regular intervals. Pakistan were excellent at picking out the Proteas’ fielders as they crumbled.

After taking a quick wicket to set Pakistan back at 24-1, the Proteas recovered well after Junior Dala was hit for 18 off his first over and the visitors raced to 47-1 before the fall of their second wicket.

Beuran Hendricks was the Proteas’ leading strike bowler with a career-best 4-14, while Chris Morris (2-27), Lutho Sipamla (1-25), Andile Phehlukwayo (1-45) and Tabraiz Shamsi (0-30) were all superb in throttling the visitors.

Mohammad Rizwan and Asif Ali were the visitors’ top performers, which was a representation of the underwhelming effort from the world’s No 1 T20I side.

Shadab Khan managed to squeeze out 21 runs from the final over as he ended on 22, to push Pakistan to a fighting total of 168-9 in their 20 overs.
