JP Duminy will captain the Cobras for their Ram Slam T20 Challenge campaign.

The Cobras’ first game will be at SuperSport Park when they face the Dolphins in Centurion.

‘JP’s numbers speak for themselves. I don’t need to add much. JP is the most successful South African batsman in this format. He is one of the best T20 batsmen in the world,’ Ashwell Prince said on the Cobras’ website.

The 33-year-old stepped in as captain for the injured Faf du Plessis during the Proteas’ 2-0 whitewash of Bangladesh, and was named skipper of the Cape Town Knight Riders for the postponed Global T20 League.

Duminy is currently South Africa’s top scorer in T20Is, having scored 1 700 runs in 73 matches @ 36.95 and a strike rate of 123.90.

Parnell was ruled out of the T20I series and a part of the ODIs against Bangladesh with a groin injury, but could make his return for the T20 Challenge campaign. Vernon Philander will also be available for selection.
