South Africa snatched a dramatic tie only to lose the Super Over of the second women’s ODI against the West Indies at the Wanderers on Monday.

Ayabonga Khaka took 5-26 as the Proteas bowled the visitors out for 160 in 37.4 overs, having earlier posted the same total in 40.4 overs. Proteas captain Suné Luus top-scored for her side with 46 from 52 balls.

But the West Indies smashed 25 off their Super Over, bowled by Shabnim Ismail, with Deandra Dottin scoring 19 off the first five balls and Rashada Williams six off the last.

Chloe Tryon hit the first ball of off-spinner Hayley Matthews’ Super Over for six and while Tazmin Brits struck two boundaries, the hosts fell eight runs short.

The West Indies take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series after the first ODI was rained out when the visitors were on track for victory.
