Trisha Chetty and Shabnim Ismail are to undergo counselling after being suspended from the Proteas Women’s cricket squad until 31 January next year.

CSA revealed on Tuesday that they’ve suspended Ismail and Chetty from playing international cricket for the Proteas until 31 January 2017, for repeat offences that breach Article 1.5.2 of the Code, namely ‘unbecoming or detrimental conduct which could bring them, the Board or the game of cricket into disrepute’.

Despite only announcing the suspension now, it actually came into effect at the start of the New Zealand series last month, which the White Ferns won 5-2.

Commenting on the suspensions, CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said:

‘We strive to be a highly professional and world-class outfit, whether on or off the field. Incidents of this nature are always disappointing and cannot be tolerated in a high-performing environment.

‘We have agreed with Shabnim and Trisha that they will undertake specialised counselling during their period of suspension and together with SACA (South African Cricketers’ Association), we will try to ensure that they successfully re-integrate themselves back into the team environment.’

CSA refused to comment further.
