South Africa batting great Graeme Pollock has apologised for comments he made regarding the quota system implemented in South African cricket.

Pollock came under fire for expressing the view that the Proteas do not field their strongest side because of restrictions placed on starting XI demographics.

Pollock has since issued a statement apologising to CSA and the South African cricketing public via his spokesperson Basil O’Hagan.

‘Graeme extends his sincerest apologies to CSA Board and the South African cricketing public for the manner in which his comments at a recent function in London were totally misconstrued,’ O’Hagan said.

‘Graeme fully supports the endeavours of the transformation process as further evidenced in the radio interview he had on 6 July with Jonathan Agnew of BBC’s TMS broadcast.’

Pollock played 23 Tests for South Africa during isolation, scoring 2 256 runs at an average of 60.97.
