Aiden Markram’s third over in ODI cricket is our Play of the Day.

It was in that over that he took his first two wickets in this format, and it rounded off an excellent debut for the rising star of SA cricket.

He made his Test debut against Bangladesh a month ago, stroking a wonderful 97 before being run out, and he followed that with a hundred in the second Test.

In his first ODI match he came in at No 4 and cracked an aggressive 66 off 60 balls, including four fours and two sixes. He helped Faf du Plessis put on 151 for the third wicket until his captain retired hurt. He followed just six runs later, but he had set the foundation for a total of 369, which proved far too much for Bangladesh.

In his bowling debut, his offbreak spin went for 11 run off his first two overs, but he then struck hard, dismissing Shakib Al Hasan on the sweep to deep midwicket after he had scored 63.  Five balls later he persuaded Sabbir Rahman (39) to go for one angling away and edging behind. He ended the day with 2-18 off three.

Add to that a great catch to dismiss Soumya Sarkar. Job done.
