Quinton de Kock hits out against England

Nottinghamshire have signed Quinton de Kock as an overseas player for their last four County Championship matches.

De Kock is leaving for Sri Lanka on Sunday but will report for duty with Notts at the end of the tour. He will play against Hampshire and Surrey in August, and Yorkshire as well. The wicketkeeper-batsman is likely to pass 2,000 Test runs during the tour to Sri Lanka.

However, De Kock said he was excited at the prospect of joining Nottinghamshire and playing at Trent Bridge, which he described as one of the best grounds in the world.

‘I enjoyed playing in England during the 2017 tour with South Africa and I am looking forward to coming back over and putting in some good performances for Nottinghamshire,’ he said. ‘The team has made a brilliant start to the season in the Championship and hopefully when I come over, we can be challenging for the title in the final rounds.’

De Kock has just 185 Test runs in England under his belt (average 23.12), so he will be eager to get some more experience of English wickets before the 2019 World Cup.

‘Quinton is a fantastic player and we can’t wait to welcome him into our squad for the Championship run-in,’ said Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket. ‘He’s one of the best batsmen in the world across all formats and he will add some further firepower to our Championship batting order. Knowing that we only had Ross Taylor for the first three months of the season, we have been working hard to secure a world-class replacement for the backend and Quinton certainly fits that bill.

‘He’s in the same mould as Ross in the fact that he likes to score quickly and play in an attacking style and I am sure he will enjoy the late summer pitches in England,’ added Newell.
