Dean Elgar posted his third score of fifty or more as Somerset made it three wins out of three in the One Day Cup. After scoring an unbeaten, career-best 131 not out against Sussex on Sunday, Elgar has taken to batting at No 4 for his new County. In a high-scoring clash in Taunton, Somerset required a huge 353 for victory against Kent, and they achieved it comfortably, as Peter Trego scored 135 to chase down the target with 3.3 overs remaining. Elgar played an important role again, scoring seven fours for his 55 off 57 balls. He scored 68 in their opening match against Surrey, meaning he sits at the top of the run-scoring charts, with 254 runs at an average of 127.

Wayne Parnell was on the receiving end in that match and only bowled four overs before injury cut him short. It was a blow for Kent, as he’d picked up figures of 1-25, including a maiden.

Simon Harmer celebrated his Essex contract extension with a superb all-round performance to edge his side to a one-wicket victory against Surrey. It kept up their 100% record, as Harmer’s 2-45 helped restrict Surrey to 210 all out, before holding his nerve with 44 off 53 deliveries to get his side over the line with four balls remaining, despite having the pressure of only having one wicket in hand.

Another South African proved to be the star on Tuesday night, and this time it was Stiaan van Zyl for Sussex, as his 96 inspired the side to 292-6, with Glamorgan falling 59 runs short of the mark by D/L method. Van Zyl scored his 96 off 88 balls, before two South Africans combined to remove him. Jacques Rudolph caught him off Marchant de Lange‘s bowling, in what was one of De Lange’s three wickets on the night. Rudolph has been on top form with the bat, scoring 121 in their season opener, before striking back-to-back fifties. His half-century this time however, came off a costly 80 deliveries, leaving too much to do down the order.

Pierre de Bruyn‘s Leicestershire won their second match of the tournament with a clinical 103-run win over Warwickshire. Cameron Delport blasted 34 off 22 balls, and took 1-20 off his three overs.
