Keegan Petersen and Sarel Erwee shared a 92-run opening stand that helped the Dolphins to a victory over the Warriors on the Duckworth-Lewis method.

When the heavens opened at Kingsmead, the Dolphins were three runs ahead on the method. The match was called off shortly after the players left the field, earning the Dolphins a victory that wraps up an unbeaten weekend for them. They top the log and appear to be the tournament’s team to beat.

The Warriors will lament the fact that none of their batters could not build a match-defining innings. Sinethemba Qeshile did well to get 47* off 35 delivers and his partnership with Jon-Jon Smuts (29 off 24) looked like it would take the Warriors past the 160 mark. Ultimately they got just 143.

It would be remiss not to credit the Dolphins’ bowlers for an excellent and suffocating effort. Keshav Maharaj excelled bowling two maidens in his four overs and finishing with just 12 runs conceded.

The Dolphins batters got off to a strong start, Erwee (52 off 37) playing the role of the aggressor, while Petersen kept the strike turning over.

Petersen, who is a strong candidate to replace Faf Du Plessis in the Test side, made a strong impression, albeit in a different format. He has long been a domestic powerhouse, and the Dolphins benefited from an excellent 58* off 56 deliveries.

The Dolphins were in a tricky spot when the rain came, needing 16 runs off the last two overs. However, with Petersen set, and David Miller at the crease with him, the Dolphins would have fancied their chances of victory.
