Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says his sideโ€™s objective in the Telkom Knockout Cup is to reach the finals after advancing into the quarter-finals.

The Glamour Boys played out to a goalless draw against the Team of Choice in the Last 16 but managed to progress to the next round winning 4-2 on penalties.

The 49-year-old coach says he is delighted that his side survived the onslaught of a โ€˜typical Ernst Middendorp gameโ€™.

โ€˜There are areas where we did not tick the boxes,โ€™ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

โ€˜We will be going through the recordings to find the details that we must work on. Maritzburg played a typical Ernst Middendorp-game, with five at the back and three players running at us. Lentjies was their main instigator.

โ€˜We dealt well with their threat though and at times we survived their onslaught.โ€™

The draw for the quarter-finals of the knockout tournament will be conducted on Thursday and Komphela says he is relishing the chance to walk away with the trophy.

โ€˜We are looking forward to the quarterfinal draw,โ€™ he added.

โ€˜Our aim is very clear. That is to take it one game at the time, but also to anticipate reaching the final and lifting the trophy.โ€™

Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their focus to the Absa Premiership when they take on Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
