Jordan Spieth’s record over the last three years has been nothing short of exceptional. The golfing world is quick to forget he’s by far the youngest player in the world’s top five, yet as good as it gets.
How do you back up a 2015 season that included a Masters victory and top honours at the Tour Championship? If you’re Jordan Spieth, you begin 2016 with a 30 under par victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
The Texan star has since won again, in May at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, and comes into this week at East Lake after a sole ninth result at BMW Championship.
Spieth has an incredible record at East Lake Golf Club, host of this week’s season finale. In 2013 he was runner up, then last year he won in only his third time playing the event.

This week he goes into the tournament ranked seventh in the FedEx Cup and 1040 points behind leader Dustin Johnson. Second in the rankings is fellow young prodigy Patrick Reed, who has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months.
Spieth needs to win this week and have Johnson and Reed finish outside the top three in order to secure the FedEx Cup trophy and a bonus of $10-million, which he took home last year.
‘I feel 100 percent. Body feels good,’ said Spieth. ‘Unfortunately I’m not in the top five (FedEx Cup points), so I don’t necessarily fully control my own destiny. But pending being a bit unlucky, if I win should still control my own destiny.’
