Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane admit his side needs to be more clinical in front of goal to avoid being punished by the opposition.

South Africa kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-1 win over Guinea in their Group B opener.

Goals from Ime Okon and Samukele Kabini handed Mosimane his first win as Bafana coach at the Orlando Amstel Arena.

Mosimane praised his side’s intensity and pressing after their strong first-half display, but bemoaned his side’s scoring opportunities throughout the match.

“We played well especially in the first half. The message was there – we pressed hard, we pressed at the top, we pressed there, we stole a few balls,” Mosimane told SABC Sport.

“But you know our South Africa problem – we don’t finish the chances and then you know what’s gonna happen later when you play against these quality teams. They’ll punish you, and they got their chance.

“We are okay right? But we just need to score goals.

“We need to score the chances we create because when you play against all these big nations, they’ll punish you. You will not come back.”
