Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Marcelo Allende says the pain of losing the Betway Premiership title last season has fuelled the club’s hunger to reclaim the trophy and compete for silverware on all fronts this campaign.

The Brazilians’ run of winning eight consecutive league titles came to an end last season after Orlando Pirates were crowned 2025-26 champions.

Sundowns were crowned Kings of Africa after they lifted the CAF Champions League trophy, while also qualifying for the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

The Chilean insists Sundowns have set themselves clear targets domestically and internationally, with the MTN8 final, Super Cup, Intercontinental, league, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup all firmly in their sights.

“It was painful [to lose the league] and I think that has helped us a little bit to get the hunger so we can get back our trophy,” said Allende on Sundowns TV as per IDiskiTimes.

“We put it on target this year that we have to play and win the local competitions in South Africa.

“Last year we struggled a little bit in that path. But what I said to you we put it on target to play finals and win.

“We already have MTN8 final, Super Cup, Intercontinental, the league is also important for us, of course the Carling Knockout and Nedbank.”
