South African midfielder Luke Le Roux has completed a move to Belgian Pro League club Cercle Brugge.

The 26-year-old joined Brugge on a permanent transfer after parting ways with English outfit Portsmouth.

Le Roux committed his future to the club after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract.

The South Africa midfielder brings a wealth of experience, having previously played for Ikapa Sporting FC, SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Varbergs BoIS, FC Volendam, Värnamo and Portsmouth.

“Cercle Brugge have strengthened their midfield with Luke Le Roux. The 26-year-old South African joins the Vereniging on a free transfer and has signed a two-year contract,” Brugge said in a statement.

“Le Roux (1.84m) is a nine-time South African international who plays in central midfield.

“He began his career in his home country before making the move to Europe in 2020. At Swedish side Varbergs BoIS, the physically strong midfielder became a regular starter and went on to make more than 100 appearances.

“After a season in the Eredivisie with FC Volendam, Le Roux returned to Sweden, where he played for IFK Värnamo.

“Last season, he was active in the English Championship with Portsmouth FC, making 16 appearances.
