Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that right-back Khuliso Mudau suffered a ‘serious injury’ during their victory over Marumo Gallants.

Mudau was stretchered off the field in the first half after picking up an injury and was subsequently replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa.

The Brazilians went on to secure a 2-0 victory over Gallants and returned to winning ways in the Betway Premiership.

Cardoso described the setback as a major blow for both Sundowns and South Africa, while revealing that the injury occurred in an accidental incident away from the pitch rather than as a result of a tackle.

“I think Mudau has a very severe injury,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the game.

“It’s obviously for a player with his caliber, his quality, it’s a big loss for South Africa and for us especially.

“We believe so, it’s a very, very severe injury.

“He got injured outside the pitch in that action. I thought it was the one in the middle, but no. We reviewed the action. This one was not form a tackle, unfortunately Teboho is still not ok from that first match.

“This one was occasional. It happens, there are accidents in F1, there are injuries in football.

“But it’s a big loss. I hope the others race for the challenge ahead, of course.”
