Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana believes a convincing home victory would provide a much-needed confidence boost while sending a strong message to their doubters.

The Brazilians have begun their Betway Premiership campaign with mixed results, having secured a win against TS Galaxy followed by a draw against Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns will attempt to return to winning ways when they take on Marumo Gallants in their next Betway Premiership encounter at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

With plenty of scrutiny surrounding the Brazilians, Kekana says starting strongly on home soil would allow them to stamp their authority and make a statement.

“We need it [big home win] because it’s a confidence thing but it’s also for us to stamp our authority,” Kekana told the media.

“There’s a lot of talk that’s happening and people are questioning us. It will be a big statement for us to start on a good note at home.”

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
