Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star Relebohile Mofokeng expressed his delight after lifting his first trophy with the Belgian club.

Mofokeng emerged as the hero as he converted the winning penalty to fire Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to Belgian Super Cup glory.

Mofokeng started the encounter on the bench before being introduced in the 61st minute in place of Raul Florucz.

With the match ending 1-1 after regulation time against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydelstadion, the first piece of silverware of the season had to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Mofokeng credited the unwavering support of his teammates for helping him settle quickly and giving him the confidence to step up in the decisive moments as Union celebrated cup success.

“I’m happy because I won my first cup here,” Mofokeng said.

“Very excited for everyone, very welcoming and everyone was there for me to, to help me to boost my confidence. That’s why I went to the penalty.

“So I think my teammates are the best. That’s why we won this cup and we are family. So that’s why.”
