Stellenbosch FC have announced that academy graduate Luthando Vena has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The Kayamandi-born defender came through the academy ranks and starred in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side last season.

Vena has since been promoted the maroons senior team after putting pen to paper on his first professional contract.

The promising defender described the milestone as a reward for years of hard work and dedication, while expressing his determination to continue his development, earn his place in the senior squad, and make both his family and community proud in the maroon jersey.

“It’s a great honour for me to sign my first professional contract with Stellenbosch FC,” Vena said.

“I worked hard for this, and I’m happy that I’m able to make my mother proud.

“I’ve had a great experience at Stellenbosch, learning from all the different Academy and Senior coaches, and adapting to their playing styles. It’s been a rewarding journey for me so far, and I’m looking forward to learning and growing more alongside the experienced players.

“I’m someone who plays with his heart, and who plays for the badge in every single game, so it’s special for me to be able to represent Stellenbosch and my community. I dreamed of playing for this team when I was young, and I hope to be an example for other young players.

“I obviously need to work hard to earn my place, but it’s an exciting prospect to know that I could make my senior debut this season. I’m incredibly happy to be here and to have this opportunity.”
