SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan has confirmed that Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is leaving his role bringing an end to a transformative spell in charge of the South Africa.

Jordaan paid tribute to the veteran Belgian for his contribution to South African football, thanking him for his service and the impact he made during his tenure.

Bafana claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after finishing third and guided South Africa to a historic Last 32 place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup under Broos.

“I am the only (Bafana) coach in the last 32 years who has stayed to the end of his contract,” Broos said.

“That means I did a great job, otherwise you couldn’t stay five years with the same team and the same organisation (SAFA). There would be trouble and fights.

“It means I am extremely proud to have achieved this.

“The past days were very sad for me. The lonely moments and long periods away from my family were very difficult for me. That is the only reason why I am leaving Bafana.”
