Argentina captain Lionel Messi believes patience and control were the decisive factors behind their comeback victory over England in the World Cup semi-final.
La Albiceleste stages a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over England in their semi-final clash at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia.
Goals from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro MartÃnez cancelled out Anthony Gordon’s opener goal to book their place in the final.
Messi insists his side dictated the tempo from the outset before raising their level even further after falling behind to book their place in the World Cup final.
“I think we showed again what we’ve been doing for years. This team plays free-flowing, high-quality football,” Messi told FIFA.
“We’re patient and we know how to read the key moments in a game.
“I think we dictated the game from the start. Although we didn’t create any clear chances before half-time, we were in control and saw a lot of the ball.
“And after they scored, we were even better.”
