Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has expressed immense pride in his teammates despite South Africa’s World Cup exit.
South Africa’s journey at the World Cup came to an end after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Canada in the Round of 32.
Bafana made history at the World Cup after reaching the last 32 for the first time in their history.
Williams insists that the squad can leave with their heads held high after showcasing their quality on the global stage while gaining valuable experience for the future.
“We can leave here with our heads high,” Williams said.
“I am proud of the boys — the fight, the effort and the mindset to keep fighting.
“We didn’t have the best start to the tournament. Our backs were against the wall but to come out here on Sunday and show up and show our worth, we can only be proud.
“It is a very young team and these are good lessons for them now going into the future.”
