Portugal boss Roberto Martinez has lauded Cristiano Ronaldo as a benchmark for professionalism and consistency, stressing the forward’s leadership and hunger ahead of their next World Cup fixture.
The Portuguese side will look to bounce back after they played out to a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening World Cup match.
Portugal will now turn their attention to the upcoming match against Uzbekistan as they look for their first win when they meet at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Ronaldo has came under criticism after his performance in the first match but Martinez backs the superstar to lead his team to victory.
“He’s a good example for us, for all of us.”
“It is the sixth time he plays a World Cup, and he is a player who’s been defending and playing for his country for a long time.
“So he really wants to keep on improving, to contribute to the team, and he’s really a role model for our team.”
