Portugal winger Francisco Conceicao has praised Cristiano Ronaldo’s enduring hunger and leadership, describing him as an example to the squad even at 41 years of age.
The Portuguese side’s World Cup campaign got off to a slow start following their 1-1 draw against DR Congo last Wednesday.
They will be hooping to redeem themselves when they take on Uzbekistan in their next group stage encounter at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Tuesday.
Conceição has offered a confident and refreshing take on team dynamics, insisting that decisions on the pitch are based purely on positioning rather than reputation.
“We don’t feel the need to pass him the ball,” Conceicao said.
“I pass it to whoever I think is in the best position and unmarked.
“Cristiano is an example because of his career and the hunger he still possesses at 41 years of age… An example of leadership and the goals he scores.
“There is no one like him when it comes to scoring goals… He is here to help, just like any other player.”
