Spain sensation Lamine Yamal described his first World Cup start and goal as a dream come true after playing a starring role in La Roja’s victory.

The 18-year-old made his first start at the World Cup and netted his first-ever goal on the world stage.

Yamal got his name on the scoresheet as Spain cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The teenage forward revealed that he was still watching the previous World Cup from school classrooms just four years ago, making his remarkable rise to football’s biggest stage even more special.

“It’s very special. I’ve always dreamed of playing at a World Cup, and scoring in my first start is a dream come true,” said Yamal after the match.

“I was watching the last World Cup from school.”
