Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has called for unity and unwavering support from both South Africans and the wider African continent as Hugo Broos’ side prepare for a crucial FIFA World Cup Group A encounter against Czechia.

South Africa will look to bounce back after their disappointing defeat to Mexico in their opening Group A match last Thursday.

Bafana will now turn their attention to their crucial Group A clash against Czechia at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Bafana goalkeeper urged fans to rally behind the national team, insisting that collective backing could provide a significant boost as South Africa looks to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

“I didn’t speak anything about Africa and people supporting Mexico. I can remember, I’ve always said that, you know, as Africans, we are one. We support each other,” Williams told the media.

“Africans have always supported other African countries in every World Cup tournament, but I can’t figure out why our own case is different.

“Many Africans supported Mexico, not us, the South Africans. We almost shed tears, but it’s truly sad.”
