Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes his side coped well with the pressure despite their defeat to Mexico.

South Africa’s World Cup campaign got off to a disappointing start as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to the host nation.

The defeat leaves Bafana sit at the foot of the table with zero points, while Mexico move up to first place in the Group A standings with three points.

The Belgian tactician felt South Africa settled into the contest after a difficult start, enjoying spells of possession and producing an encouraging performance against the tournament hosts.

“When you play an opening match against the tournament hosts, you know you will be under immense pressure.

“But the only moment we were genuinely under pressure was in the first 20 minutes. After that, we dominated the ball and played well.”
