Stellenbosch FC forward Wonderboy Makhubu’s confidence is soaring after scoring his first goal for the club.
The Maroons and TS Galaxy shared the spoils after playing out to a 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
The draw sees Stellies drop to 10th place in the Betway Premiership standings with 24 points from 20 matches.
With his confidence now soaring, Makhubu is eager to build on this breakthrough and continue adding to his goal tally for the team.
“It felt really great to score my first goal for Stellenbosch, but the most important thing was to help the team get a point,” Makhubu told his club’s official website.
“From the first minute, and in fact in every game, I have the belief that I am going to score. I approach every single move, from when it starts at the back with the build-up play, with the mindset that it’s going to end with me putting the ball in the net.
“So, when it went out wide, I instinctively moved to the box expecting the cross. Devin saw me, and when it came, I did a short prayer to say, ‘Eish, can I please score this one!’ because I had played a few games for the Club without scoring.
“Of course, bit by bit, that puts a person under more pressure, but I am a striker and it’s my job to score goals, so I was very happy to open my account. That has boosted my confidence a lot, so hopefully, going forward, even more goals will come.”
