Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed his disappointment following their exit from the Nedbank Cup, acknowledging missed opportunities and the unpredictable nature of knockout football.

The Buccaneers suffered a shock elimination from the Nedbank Cup after suffering a 5-4 defeat on penalties against Casric Stars in the last 16.

Nethier side could be seperated after regulation time and the match ended goalless, sending the game to be settle in a penalty shootout at the Orlando Stadium, Soweto.

Ouaddou credited Casric Stars for their disciplined performance and emphasised the need for Pirates to regroup quickly and respond positively after their Nedbank Cup setback.

“It’s a very disappointing result just after the result of Sundowns. I think…you know in football especially in the cups any team can challenge you for one minute in terms of the team spirit,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV after the game.

“I think congratulations to Casric Stars, they did the game they want, they waited, they gave us the length of the ball, we find some opportunities unfortunately we didn’t score and after you give motivation to these kinds of teams.

“In the second half again, we created some chances but didn’t score so it’s the magic of the cup, for us we’ll analyse and have to bounce back quickly because it will be very important but congratulations to the players, coach of Casric Stars and the club.”

The Buccaneers will look to bounce back when they take on Kaizer Chiefs in what is expected to be an entertaining Soweto derby encounter next weekend.
