An inordinate amount of rain overnight forced the third round of the Jonsson Workwear Durban Open to be abandoned after certain areas of the course were rendered unplayable at Durban Country Club on Saturday, and the tournament reduced to 54 holes.
They were unable to even start the third round as planned.
“We had over 100mm of rain. I received my first phone call from the club at just before 4am. Several holes were compromised,” said Gary Todd, Tournament Director of the Sunshine Tour.
“The club has been excellent in terms of their help and we have the pumps going to try and drain those holes. But it just couldn’t happen quickly enough for today unfortunately. The team at DCC will work through the night to try and make sure we can resume again on Sunday.”
The third and final round is scheduled to start at 6:20am.
Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand and Spain’s Santiago Tarrio are currently tied for the lead through 36 holes on 13 under par, one stroke clear of England’s Alfie Plant.
