Orlando Pirates advanced to the Nedbank Cup last 16 after claiming a 4-1 victory over Tshakhuma FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The Buccaneers got off to a good start and found their rhythm early in the opening exchanges of the match.

Pirates were awarded a penalty in the eighth minute when Oswin Appollis was brought down in the box.

Andre de Jong stepped up and made no mistake from the spot-kick to send the keeper the wrong way and hand his side the lead.

The Soweto giants doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Thalente Mbatha’s deflected shot found the net to make it 2-0.

Tshakhuma managed to reduce the deficit in the 38th minute when Sithembiso Ngobe’s curling free-kick found the back of the net from just outside the box.

Pirates held on to their 2-1 lead as the match went into the half-time interval.

The Buccaneers restored their two-goal lead in the 50th minute when Patrick Maswanganyi played a one-two before calmly slotting the ball home to make it 3-1.

Sipho Mbule rounded off the scoring for the Buccaneers when he unleashed a strike from outside the box to find the back of the net to make it 4-1.

The Buccaneers held onto their lead until the final whistle to secure a 4-1 win to advance to the next round of the competition.
